Have you ever been in love? Horrible, isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your heart and it means someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses. You build up this whole armor, for years, so nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person,no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They don't ask for it.They do something dumb one day like kiss you,or smile at you,and then your life isn't your own anymore.Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness,so a simple phrase like 'maybe we should just be friends' or 'how very perceptive' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt,a body-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. Love hurts.
But we still search for it. Some of us get hurt, then decide to never love again. Others get hurt over and over and still come back for more. The pain never goes away, but it can be overshadowed by happiness if you find the 'right' person. Love can hurt, but it's also the only true happiness. Sometimes we go looking for love, other times it just shows up while we're busy living. You can be in the library, reading about tax laws, and your true love could sit down across from you. Would you notice? You could go to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription, and the cashier could be your true love.
Your one true love. Or one of your true loves. Who knows if fate exists, to bring two souls together in the entire world? Is your love a one-in-a-million love? One in a thousand? One in ten? If you're lucky, you'll never know. It's easier to live with doubt than truth. Just love the one you fell in love with for as long as you love them. Tell them you love them whenever it pops into your head. Never wait to tell them, tomorrow may be too late.
