Dysfunction By John Carter
"Hello," he lied
When she came to the door
He couldn't help noticing
Her heart on the floor
And when she spoke
Her voice was so pure
He dropped all his words
And it left him unsure
"How are we?" she asked
And he had no reply
He knew how they were,
But he didn't know why
So he built up a mountain
From a molehill of love
And he took all the credit
When push came to shove
Her voice sounded tiny
But it meant so very much
And all she ever needed
Was the softness of his touch
But his touch was never soft
And his love was never real
And he acted out of anger
Because he didn't know what to feel
So here they are today
American couple extraordinaire
Without knowing what it's built on
Because neither really cares
The love is only there
To fill the emptiness inside
Each turns to the other
Where they know they can hide
So, maybe they are perfect
Truly meant to be
If dysfunction can be great
Maybe, so can we.
